For the lectern, I was using an old microphone which belonged to the church but it was giving out a hum today. So I brought it home to check it out. We still have flickering on the altar camera. This is due to interaction between the church lighting and the camera. The simplest solution didn’t work and the next solution is quite expensive. The sound was a little on the low side on the original video, this is a new version which has beeen improved in the editor. This week is a “first” as it is the first time I have put the service on YouTube without first running it through the editor at home. I would dearly love to stream the sevices but our internet connection is only 3G. But I record the services “as live”, so in theory I don’t need to use the editor.

Up till now, it has been called “What’s on in Las Palmas”, and it included a section for the city as well as for the church and the British Club. A little while ago, I dropped the city section and, now that the British Club has its own newsletter, I’m concentrating far more on the church. So, it is now called “The Newsletter of Holy Trinity Church and the British Club, Las Palmas.”

This is where you come in! To subscribe to the newsletter, you will see links on the website, but I’ve also added a link here. If you are not already a subscriber, please consider joining. It is issued on the first of the month with maybe a second edition half-way through the month. It features an editoral piece by Fr David as well as news for the coming month. At present, there are about 75 subscribers, about 30% I recognise from church. Maybe others were visitors and want to stay in touch.

There are still some quirks in OBS Studio, which I use to record the service and I plan a third camera for the congregation. The little cube cameras which I use are rather difficult to set up, but once in place, they will be far less prominent than a regular video camera. There is flickering on the altar camera which is difficult to remove without editing the whole video. And I am getting a noise-cancelling effect in the sound although it is de-selected in OBS Studio (Noise-gate). It has dawned on me that maybe Windows is doing this for me! But here is the service in its complete unabridged form! In stereo!

It is a common problem due to interference from the church lighting, so I’m looking into how to fix it. Some of the sound is a little other-worldly and low level. I think this is due to my lack of understanding how the audio mixer connects with OBS Studio. So I’m doing tests at home before recording the next service. One problem I have is that it takes about 30 minutes to set up all the sound gear before a service because I can’t just leave it in place during the week. So, preparing for the service is a bit of a rush. Oh for the sound and projection location at the church in Barcelona! High up and completely secure. Steve
