Baptisms

To seek Baptism for yourself or your child is a very exciting decision! To seek Baptism is to say you wish yourself and/or your child to be part of God’s family and to begin a new and personal relationship that requires nurturing through actions including worship, prayer, Bible study and other spiritual disciplines.

Baptism is full initiation into the Christian mystery and the eucharistic community of faith, hope and love. It is the one sacrament that all Christian denominations have in common. This sacrament seals individuals as cross shaped daughters and sons of the Triune God, incorporating them into the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. As such, baptism is normally accepted as suitable for membership in any of the mainstream or orthodox Christian traditions.

As a regular member of your local parish, Baptism is a wonderful opportunity for your fellow parishioners to share your joy. Baptism is often celebrated during Sunday service so that as many people as possible can welcome you or your child into the Church community and ongoing Christian life.

In organising a Baptism, the first step is to make an appointment to meet with the priest, where together you can start to talk about the service and answer any questions you may have. You don’t have to have been baptised yourself, nor do you need to be a regular churchgoer to express a desire to be baptised and to explore all that a baptism means. We will be delighted to hear from you!
